Michael A. Neufeld

Michael A. Neufeld is the founder of the law firm of Michael A. Neufeld & Assoc., LLC. He received a B.A. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1970, an M.B.A. degree from Columbia University in 1972, and a J.D. degree (cum laude) from the University of Miami in 1977. He also received a CPA certificate from the State of Connecticut in 1974. He is admitted to practice law in Connecticut and Florida. Prior to forming the firm of Michael A. Neufeld & Assoc., LLC, Michael was a partner in the law firm of Meyers Breiner Neufeld & Kent L.L.P., in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Michael has been a member of the Executive Committee of the Tax Section of the Connecticut Bar Association for over 20 years. He edited the Tax Section's newsletter for many years and is presently the Chairman of the Continuing Legal Education Subcommittee. He has spoken on numerous occasions to professional groups and the general public on estate and tax planning and has authored numerous articles for various professional journals.

Michael has also served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Bridgeport School of Law and at Quinnipiac University School of Law, and is a fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

C. Scott McLeod

C. Scott McLeod graduated from Harvard University in 1980 with an A.B. degree (cum laude) in Economics. He received his J.D. degree (magna cum laude) in 1983 from Georgetown University Law Center. He also received a Masters of Law in Taxation degree in 1986 from Georgetown and served as an Adjunct Professor of Law in its graduate tax program.

Scott previously served as a legislation counsel for the U.S. Joint Committee of Taxation, where he assisted in the preparation of tax legislation and advised members of Congress and their staffs on the implications of proposed tax legislation. He has also worked as an attorney-advisor for the Internal Revenue Service's Office of Chief Counsel and as a tax policy advisor for the U.S. Department of Treasury's Office of Technical Assistance. He is admitted to practice law in Connecticut and Washington, D.C. Scott has spoken on tax matters before various professional groups, including seminars sponsored by the Tax Section of the Connecticut Bar Association.

Catherine Spain


Catherine M. Spain

Catherine M. Spain earned her Juris Doctor and Certificate in Tax Studies at the University of Connecticut’s School of Law, where she was named a Dean's Scholar, served as Lead Articles Editor of the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal, and worked in the Tax Clinic. A native of Bethel, Connecticut, Catherine earned a Bachelor of Arts at Yale University and a Master of Music at Indiana University, where she was a Graduate Fellow. While in law school, Catherine served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Alfred V. Covello of Federal District Court, District of Hartford, and as a law clerk at Horton, Shields & Knox, P.C. Her article, “Reasonable Expectations in the Sphere of Liberty: A Theory of Accidental Death Insurance Coverage,” was published in 2006 in the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal. From 2007 to 2008, Catherine served as Judicial Clerk for the Honorable Douglas S. Lavine of the Connecticut Appellate Court. She is a member of the American Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association and is admitted to practice in state and federal court in Connecticut. An accomplished vocalist, Catherine has performed as a soloist at St. Paul's Cathedral in London and at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center.
